Event chains

Myrmeku Activity is a colony event chain that has a very small chance to trigger 3 years after any colony has been founded. It can only happen once per game and only to empires whose main species is robot.
Myrmeku Activity

Since settling on [colony name], we have noted increased arthropod activity. Specifically, tiny colony-building insects designated "Myrmeku" have become unexpectedly productive.
Their underground colonies are spread across the continent in great numbers, but until now they have never caused an issue. It is unknown if they are searching for something above ground or fleeing from something beneath.
Colonization Units Attacked

Our colonization units on [colony name] have been viscously attacked! Venturing too close to a Myrmeku colony, they were swarmed. As the tiny insects entered openings in the colonization units' frames, the victims were quickly overwhelmed.
The fallen colonization units were immediately disassembled, but no conclusive data was collected as to the insects' purpose. The craggy surface of the Myrmeku's magnetic exoskeletons damage our internal circuitry, and when two Myrmeku touch, they create a tiny electrical spark; both of which may cause catastrophic failure.
Losing colonization units this way has slowed down the [planet or moon]'s development rate. Something must be done.
Memory Eaters

With astounding speed, the Myrmeku have built several sprawling structures close to our settlement. Their attacks are no longer limited to the perimeter, but have also begun inside housing structures.
The large number of subjects available for autopsy has revealed the disturbing reason why the Myrmeku are interested in us: The insects consume the insulation material of our memory chips.
This is only fatal for the victim in the short term, as memory circuits can be replaced and backups restored. However, replacing the parts means delays for the construction of new colonization units.
Trigger conditions:

Mean time to happen:
|
Seal off our colony.
Upgrade our bodies. Destroy the Myrmeku colonies. |
Pest Control![]() The colony buildings on [colony name] were completely sealed off to keep the Myrmeku insects out. The entrances of both new and existing buildings were outfitted with metallic strips that can be magnetized to trap the Myrmeku, but colonization units are still being lost to attacks in the field.

Nuclear Option![]() Everything has been prepared for the cleansing of biological life on [colony name].

Analysis Subroutine Proposal

Efforts so far have not put an end to the Myrmeku problem. The insects still crawl across [colony name] in immense numbers, making travel and off-colony operations difficult. Our analysis subroutine has concluded its simulation of potential futures with the following approaches.
Approach A: Distract the Myrmeku by airdropping memory insulation material far off from our colony and recycle the fallen colonization units.
Approach B: Study the Myrmeku to see if we can find a way to turn their vigorous activity into something useful.
Powerful Results

Our study of the Myrmeku has concluded. When calibrated magnets were placed around the entrances of their colonies, the magnetism in the insect exoskeletons generated electricity that we could harness.
The study also showed that the Myrmeku move according to local magnetic fields, so installing a demagnetized protective shell around our memory chips should be enough to protect them.
