User interface

Stellaris' Interface, also called user interface (UI), or graphical user interface (GUI), has a number of specific screens and visual elements. This article will focus on the pragmatic purpose and utility of the interface (as opposed to the stylistic elements).
All tabs of the empire interface can be rearranged in-game.

Empire[]

Empire UI
The empire screen presents information regarding the empire and its government. The player can find here:
- The current ruler and their traits.
- The empire's ethics and civics.
- Authority type and next election date (if has elections) or next heir (if imperial).
- The empire's origin.
- The empire's
diplomatic weight.
- Reform Government button - Change the empire's authority and civics for a
unity cost.
- A switchable list of either:
- Modifiers currently affecting the empire.
- Diplomatic relations with other empires.

Elections UI
The election UI can be brought up by clicking the notification during an election. Elections occur periodically in the following authority governments types
Democratic
Oligarchic
Dictatorial
Corporate

During elections, the election UI shows the date of the election and a list of candidates (taken from leaders) with information on:
- Leader level
- Potential ruler traits
- Current position (if holds one)
A random leader (if , the leader with the highest election chance) will be made the ruler at the election date. The player can also intervene and support or elect a specific leader for a
unity cost.
Demographics[]

Demographics UI
The demographics tab keeps track of the empire's population. The player can find here:
- Pie chart showcasing the species breakdown within the empire
- The dominant species as well as that species' traits
- A summary of modifiers affecting the empire's pops (such as
pop growth speed and bonus to the production of resources)
Advisor voice[]

Advisor UI
The advisor tab allows the player to choose the voice of the advisor or use the automatically determined voice.
- There are 9 advisor voices in the base game - one for each ethic in addition to the standard one.
- There are 12 advisor voices added by various DLCs.

Council[]![]() Tab 01 - Council The Council displays the current councilors along with their level and traits that take effect when the leader is on the council. It also displays launched agendas and progress towards launching the current agenda. |
Factions[]![]() Tab 02 - Factions The Factions tab provides an overview of the populace's political groupings, and allows the player to see their demands. The player can also see a faction's happiness, effects, and size. They can also choose to promote or suppress the faction. |

Some policies are not shown until certain conditions are met, such as researching a certain technology or encountering a primitive empire. |

Market[]![]() Market The Market tab displays all current tradable resources along with their conversion rate. If the Galactic Market has been established, that empire is shown at the top right. The player can set automatic monthly trades in this screen. |

Fleet manager[]![]() Fleet manager Through the fleet manager tab, the player can manage all of the empire's fleets. All fleets are listed in the middle-top part of the tab. Their admiral and current orders are also here. On the right side is the build queue of the fleet. If the player is adding new ship designs to the fleet, this changes to list all ship designs. |

Contacts[]![]() Contacts In the Contacts tab, the player can see a detailed list of all the empires they have encountered. In addition to regular empires, this screen also lists fallen empires, enclaves, primitives, marauders, and other special empires, such the endgame crisis. The left side panel shows details of the selected empire, depending on empire type and intel level. The main panel lists all known empires, and the player can filter this list by empire type and sort it by several aspects, including opinion towards the player, diplomatic status, and relative power. |

Technology view

The Technology screen shows the current research efforts, previously researched technologies, and possible research options. Technologies are categorized into three different fields, with each field typically having three available research options. It is highly recommended to assign a scientist to each field, as without a scientist leading research, it will take significantly longer to unlock technology.

This screen lists all the available claims. Claims can be added by spending influence or removed, though there is no refund for doing so. While this UI is open, the player can click systems on the map in order to add them to the list.

Species

The Species tab lists all types of intelligent beings the player has encountered with details on their traits and homeworld. The list can be switched between all known species in the galaxy and only those residing in the empire. The player can also set the species rights for each species here and modify or uplift them if technology to do so has been researched.

Planets and Sectors
This tab allows the player to manage their sectors and the colonies within them. Every line shows the name of a sector, its governor, the number of systems, colonies, and pops in the sector, and its total production. Clicking on a sector shows a list of all planets in that sector. It is possible to send resources from the empire stockpile to the shared stockpile through this tab. Players can also release a sector as a new vassal empire. Planets which are not part of a sector are not shown.

Expansion planner
The expansion planner shows all known habitable planets, including potential habitable terraforming targets. The list of planets can be filtered by survey and colonization status, and the list can be sorted by each attribute. This allows the player to easily find and colonize planets by clicking on them.
